UPDATE: Fire Destroys Part Of Home In South Wall

Roof, portions of second level of home destroyed in afternoon blaze

An afternoon blaze destroyed parts of a home in the southern end of town Monday.

Crews responded to 2163 Windfield Dr. shortly before 3 p.m. on reports of a house fire. The home was ablaze when crews arrived at the bi-level home off Tiltons Corner Road.

A portion of Windfield Dr. was blocked off for about an hour as crews from Glendola Fire Company and South Wall Fire and Rescue and Wall Fire Department knocked back the blaze, which was contained before 4 p.m.

Also responding were the Wall Fire Prevention, Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Fire Marshal, Wall Twp Detectives, Wall Community First Aid Squad, and Wall EMS, said police Sgt. Patrick Connor.

There was no one at home at the time of the fire, Connor said, and crews were able to remove family pets without injury.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but does not appear suspicious. Patrolman Eric Olsen is the investigating officer, Connor said.
