Fire Districts Ask Voters For More Than $2 Million

Elections are being held Saturday, 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The township’s three volunteer fire districts will hold elections on Saturday, asking voters to approve tax levies totaling more than $2.3 million in support of their 2011 budgets.

Polling will take place from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at each district’s respective fire station.

In District 1, the township’s smallest district covering the West Belmar area, voters are asked to approve a $383,689 tax levy in support of the district’s 2011 budget totaling $385,689. Voting will be conducted  at the 18th Avenue fire station.

Fire District 1 covers election Districts 3 and 7.In District 2, voters will decide whether to approve a $1,015,903 tax levy supporting the district’s $1,163,467 spending plan for 2011.

The district also is asking voters to approve an additional $765,000 for the purchase of a new pumper truck. Voting will take place at the Glendola Fire Company, 3404 Belmar Boulevard.

Voters in election districts 1, 2, 5, 6, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 19 are covered by fire District 2.

In District 3, the district is asking voters to approve a 978,416 tax levy in support of its $1,313,416.00 spending plan for 2011. Voting will take place at the South Wall Fire Company, Station 2, at Church Street and Route 35.

Fire District 3 covers election districts 2, 4, 8, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, and 18.
