First Appearance For Subject of Friday's Manhunt

Parolee who led authorities on seven-hour search appears in court

The parolee who , disrupting Garden State Parkway traffic and attracting a phalanx of police, made his first appearance in court Monday morning, according to court records.

Kevin T. Brown, 37, of Pequannock, in Morris County, is being held at Monmouth County Jail, Freehold township, on $46,500 bail, according to jail records.

Brown made his initial appearance Monday on eight separate charges stemming from the Friday incident. He is charged with aggravated assault while eluding capture, hindering, defiant tresspass, creating a dangerous condition, obstruction, criminal mischief, resisting arrest and creating the risk of widespread injury, according to court records.

Shortly before noon, Patrolman Justin Hudson stopped Brown's vehicle on the Parkway near mile marker 98, just south of Route 138, for failure to make reapairs, police have said.

Brown, who had active warrants out of the Morris County Prosecutor's Office for parole violations, fled on foot, crossing all lanes of the Parkway, police have said.

The Wall Township Police Department, New Jersey State Police, New Jersey Park Police, Howell Township Police Department and Monmouth County Division of Shade Tree assisted in the search, which lasted about seven hours. He was arrested around 7 p.m. in a woodeded area around Garden State Parkway mile marker 97.6, police have said.

One Wall police officer, unnamed by police, was injured in the search. He was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, with non-life-threatening injures and later released.
