Funeral Services Set For Crash Victim

Services to be held Saturday for Tyler Michael Bekier, 18, who died Monday in an ATV crash

Funeral services have been set for the teen killed Monday when his all-terrain vehicle struck a tree on Watson Road.

A visitation is scheduled for Tyler Michael Bekier  from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Reilly Funeral Home, 801 D St., Belmar. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Rose Church, 603 7th Ave., Belmar. Burial will follow at St. Anne’s Cemetery on Allenwood Road, according to Bekier’s obituary.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Tyler's name be sent to the Wounded Warrior Project. They can be reached at: donationservices@woundedwarriorproject.org, the obituary says.

Bekier, who was born in Voorhees and lived in Westmont before moving to Belmar seven years ago, had hoped to join the Marine Corps, the obituary says. He was 18.

He is survived by his mother, Regina Sanders Bruno and stepfather Stephen Keller; his father, Michael A. Bekier; his sisters, Jackie Bekier and Brandy Lynn Bekier; his brother, Michael Reevey; his grandmother, Jean Bekier; his grandfather, John Sanders; and many cousins, the obituary says.

Police earlier said the teen was from Bradley Beach. The obituary also says he was as student at Mansaquan High School. Manasquan Superintendent Geraldine Margin has said Bekier was placed in KIVA High School, Tinton Falls, through Manasquan high.

Bekier studied building trades at KIVA until June of 2008, the end of his sophomore year, officials have said.

Bekier was killed Monday when he lost control of his ATV on Watson Road, between Monmouth Boulevard and Brighton Ave., police have said.

A second teen, 19-year-old David P. Foster Jr., of Neptune, was injured in the crash. He was released from Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, on Wednesday, a hospital spokesman said.

A makeshift memorial has sprouted on Watson Road at the site where Bekier died. Flowers, some still in their plastic wrappers, lay on the side of road, interspersed with scads of prayer candles that stand sentry on the spot where police say the teen's ATV left the road.

The crash is still under investigation by the Wall Township Police Department, Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team, police have said.

Anyone with information or anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Sgt. Chad Clark of the Wall Township Police Department at (732) 449-4500 ext. 1143.
