Traffic lights at four intersections went dark and about 1,400 residents were without power Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning as high winds downed power lines, police said.
Police and fire personnel responded to a report of live wires down on Baileys Corner Road, just west of Allaire Road around 9:24 p.m.
The downed wires knocked out power to traffic lights at Route 34 and Allenwood Road; Route 138 and Allenwood Road; Route 138 and Club Drive and 18th Avenue and New Bedford Road, Sgt. Joseph Wilbert said.
The state Highway Department assisted Wall Police with traffic control Jersey Central Power & Light crews worked to restore power. The traffic signals were running again about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, Wilbert said.
The utility company reported fewer than 50 customers in Wall were without power by 3 a.m. And by mid-morning Wednesday, the company reported fewer than five still without power.
