Manasquan man charged with drunken driving, fleeing scene

A Manasquan man was arrested and charged with drunken driving and fleeing the scene of an accident Thursday following a collision on Route 35, police said.

Paul Stemmerman, 54, was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to provide breath samples, reckless driving, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident and failure to report a motor vehicle accident following a crash at the intersection with Lakewood Road, Sgt. Chad Clark said.

Neither Stemmerman nor the driver of the other car was injured in the 8:24 p.m. collision, Clark said.

Stemmerman was arrested with the assistance of the Manasquan Police Department, Clark said.

Stemmerman was charged and released. Patrolman Scott Fifield and Patrolman Emmett Idzahl were the investigating officers, Clark said.
