Jackson Man Faces Auto Assault Charges Following Crash

Route 138 shut down for half hour Wednesday after collision.

A Jackson man was charged with assault by auto and drunken driving after a two-car collision on Route 138 that shut down a portion of the state highway Wednesday.

Caleb Applewhaite, 28, was driving east on Route 138 around 6:35 p.m. and failed to stop at a red light at the Club Dr. intersection, colliding with another car.  Police closed the state highway at Allenwood Road for about 30 minutes during an investigation, Sgt. Sean O’Halloran said.

Both drivers were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune Township, for treatment of minor injuries following the crash, O’Halloran said.
