Lake Como Tavern Owner Facing Aggravated Assault Charge

Police: Thomas McCann assaulted a man who had urinated on his tavern

The owner of McCann's Tavern is charged with allegedly assaulting a man at the tavern at 1704 Main St., Lake Como, police said Tuesday afternoon.

Thomas McCann, 52, was charged with third degree aggravated assault after police saw him allegedly "physically assaulting" a man who had allegedly urinated on the outside of the tavern, police said.

Police were called to the scene at 5:21 p.m. Jan. 5.

"Lake Como Police were dispatched to a call of a male subject urinating on the building of McCann’s Tavern," says a prepared statement from the police department. 

"When officers arrived at the scene, they observed an assault taking place. Thomas McCann, 52, the owner, was physically assaulting the subject who had urinated on the building. The victim had to be transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center and be treated for head trauma."

Police filed the charged after further investigation, bail was set at $15,000, with 10 percent and McCann posted bail and was released, police said. 

The other man, Patrick Degano, 49, was charged with urinating in public, police said.
