Mandatory Evacuations In Portions Of Wall

Authorities have issued mandatory evacuations for all trailer parks, other portions of town

The Wall Township Office of Emergency Management on Sunday issued mandatory evacuation orders for all trailer parks and certain other portions of town ahead of Hurricane Sandy.

Everyone living in any of the trailer parks — including Bearmore, Sea Breeze Shore Mobile Acres and 138 trailer parks — as well as those living on Old Mill Road north of the Old Mill School and south of the Old Mill Inn Bridge, and those living on Butternut Road between the addresses of 2114 to 2133 must leave by 11 p.m. Sunday, according to an automated call put out by the OEM.

Also, the office has issued voluntary evacuations of low lying areas of Millbrook Road, Belmar Boulevard east of Marion Street and west of Route 35 and Heroy's Pond Court, according to the message.

Residents should make every attempt to make plans to stay with family or friends. Shelter space is limited and should only be used as a last resort, the message says.

If residents cannot stay with family or friends, they may proceed to the reception center Wall Intermediate School on Allaire Road between 2 and 8 p.m. on Sunday, where shuttle buses will take them to one of the 2 designated shelters in Monmouth County, the message says.

The Intermediate School is not a shelter - only a reception center. If residents need transportation to the reception center, please contact police HQ at (732) 449-4500 to make arrangements.

Only residents who are in the mandatory evacuation areas will be transported to the shelters. All other residents must shelter in place at their homes or stay with family or friends, the message says.

Additionally, after 7 p.m. on Monday,Oct. 29, the following roadways may be closed due to their propensity to flood quickly during periods of heavy rain:

  • Rt 33/34 between the Collingwood Circle and the Howell border
  • Allenwood /Lakewood Rd at the Brice Park bridge
  • Hospital Road
  • Belmar Blvd east of Marconi Road
