Marlboro Resident Finds Nanny Bound and Gagged In Daylight Home Invasion

Elliott Keppler came home to walk his dog when he found his home had been ransacked

Police are that left a Marlboro nanny tied up by thieves, and all of one family's jewelry gone.

Marlboro Police and the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office are both investigating the home invasion, which was called in at 1:38 p.m. on Wednesday, after homeowner Elliott Keppler stopped home to walk his dog.

Keppler told police he found the family's nanny of eight years tied up and terrified, his house a mess. Burglars had shoved her up against a wall.

The nanny was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital, and released last night according to Marc Lemieux, Director of Investigations for the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

Keppler's wife and children were not home at the time, but the nanny was able to provide police a description of two suspects.

"We believe it is more than one individual, we don't really have a lot else to add at this point," Lemieux said.

Monmouth County First Assistant Prosecutor Richard Incremona said no arrest has been made at this time.

The homeowner told CBS New York he doesn't think it was an inside job, and doesn't know why his home was targeted.

Suspects stole pearls, a Cartier watch and sentimental pieces like Mrs. Keppler's wedding band.

"We are actively investigating from a forensic angle and through interviews," Lemieux said.

The Prosecutor's Office is continuing to interview neighbors like Bella Schars, who told Patch she didn't notice anything unusual Wednesday.

"It's so quiet here. My daughter and I were just saying yesterday morning how boring this street is," Schars said.

Although the incident was nervewracking for this quiet Morganville neighborhood, Schars takes solace in believing the Marlboro Police and Prosecutor's Office will solve this crime.

"I feel confident that eventually they will find the person or people that did this," she said.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Det. Jose Cruz at 800-533-7443 or Marlboro Det. John Bise 732-536-0100 ext 1458.
