Police: Purse Snatchers Targeting Elderly Women

Police looking into a string of purse thefts

Police are looking for any information that may help them catch a purse thief or thieves targeting elderly women.

There have been three incidents of purse snatching from shopping carts in four days. The victims have been elderly women shoppers, Sgt. Chad Clark said.

The latest incident was Monday around 11:44 a.m. at the Shop Rite location at Route 34 and Lakewood Road, Clark said. Patrolmen Emmett Idzahl and Thomas Dowd are investigating, Clark said.

Police advise that shoppers not turn their backs on their shopping carts or to not bring their purses with them, Clark said.

Anyone who has information regarding the purse thefts is asked to contact the Wall Township Police Department at (732) 449-4500.
