A Farmingdale man believed to be behind a string of residential burglaries in Wall Township was arrested over the weekend after a long investigation, authorities said.
Matthew S. Vandunk, 26, was charged with burglary and theft from a home on Shark River Station Road and he is a suspect in numerous other burglaries in the township. Additional charges are pending, said Lt. Chris Tango said.
Vandunk is normally seen walking through a neighborhood just prior to burglary reports. Vandunk knocks on the doors of prospective homes, Tango said, and if someone is home, Vandunk will say he is looking for a lost dog or puppy and make small talk.
If no one answers the door, Vandunk enters the home any way possible, taking jewelry, cash and loose change, Tango said.
Vandunk was taken to Monmouth County jail, Freehold Township, in lieu of $20,000 bail, Tango said.
