Probe Continues Into Car Fire That Left One Dead

An investigation into an early morning car fire in a Route 35 parking lot on Wednesday is continuing and authorities are mum on further details.

First Assistant Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni late Thursday said there was no further information on .

Gramiccioni said he could not identify the person who was killed and any information on the incident would be released upon completion of the investigation. He did not set a time line.

Emergency crews from , and were called to 2007 Route 35 shortly before 4 a.m. for a fully involved vehicle fire. Once the fire was put out, a single occupant, the driver, was found inside, authorities said.

, Wall Township Fire Bureau, Monmouth County Fire Marshal's Office, Monmouth County Medical Examiner and the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office were called to the scene, authorities said.

An nightshift employee from the nearby A&P grocery store who declined to give his name Wednesday morning said he wanted to help the person inside the car, but the fire was too intense.

The Jeep had stopped near a , located near a rear exit to New Bedford Road. A rear wheel had exploded from the heat and crews early Wednesday morning were loading various blackened pieces onto a tow truck.
