Rollover Crash Leads To Arrest

Drunken driving, drug charges for Whiting man

A Whiting man was arrested and charged with drunken driving and a host of other charges after he lost control of his car Sunday night, rolling over into oncoming Route 34 traffic, police said.

Brian H. Penton, 32, was charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also charged with reckless driving, careless driving, failure to maintain a lane and possession of a controlled, dangerous substance in a motor vehicle around 8 p.m. after a single-car crash, Sgt. Joseph Wilbert said.

Penton was traveling southbound on Route 34 just north of Megill Road when he lost control of his 2008 Honda Accord, drove into the grass median and became airborne, rolled over and slid across all lanes of northbound traffic and hit several curbs before the car righted itself, Wilbert said.
