UPDATE: Truck Overturned On Route 138

Tractor-trailer overturned Thursday morning spilling debris over state highway

A tractor-trailer overturned on Route 138 Thursday morning, spilling heaps of debris on the state highway and shutting the westbound lanes of the state highway.

The truck, filled with construction debri, was traveling westbound in the area of Route 18 when it overturned around 10:30 a.m. spilling debris across all lanes of the westbound highway.

The driver, Michael Brake, 38, of Long Branch, was traveling on Route 18 south ramp for Route 138 west when he struck the curb and rolled over, Sgt Patrick Connor said.

Brake was taken by Wall EMS to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune Township, with a minor leg injury, Connor said.

The vehicle is registered to First Choice Construction & Development, Tinton Falls. No other vehicles were involved in the accident, Connor said.

State Department of Transportation, Taylor's Towing, Glendola Fire Department and the State Police also responded, Connor said.

The accident for hours closed the westbound lanes of the state highway west of New Bedford Road.

Westbound traffic is being diverted onto Route 18, while traffic in the area knotted.
