UPDATED: Voters Approve All Fire District Budgets

All three budgets pass handily in Saturday's polling

Voters in two of Wall Township’s three fire districts handily approved the 2012 budgets in Saturday’s polling.

Voters in all three districts approved budgets and elected commissioners to three year terms.

In District 1, voters were asked to approve a $362,095 tax levy in support of the district’s 2012 budget totaling $394,095. The levy is down $21,594 from the district’s $383,689 tax burden last year, or 5.6 percent.

Voters overwhelmingly approved the budget 43-6.

Norman R. Stelling and William Davenport were unchallenged for three-year terms on the board of commissioners. There were 48 and 42 votes cast for each man, respectively.

Voters in District 2, which held the only contested election of all three districts, were asked to approve a $980,619 tax levy in support of the district’s $983,619 budget for 2012.

This year's levy is down $125,284, or just more than 11 percent, from the 2011 levy of $1,015,903. This year's tax rate of 6.4 cents for each $100 of property value also is down, slightly, from the 2011 rate of 6.5 cents.

The budget was approved 168-66.

Michael Textor and Harlon Bauter won seats on the board of commissioners, beating out Jeffrey P. Jannerone and Michael Dorrer for three-year terms.

Textor was the top vote-getter with 167, while Bauter garnered 88. Dorrer received 83 votes and Jannerone 74. There was one write-in vote for Mayor Jeffrey Foster.

In district 3, voters were asked to approve a $1,000,921 tax levy in support of the district’s $1,420,185 spending plan for 2012. It was approved 47-4.

The district this year ncreased its tax levy by $22,505, or 2.3 percent over the 2011 levy of $978,416. The tax rate of less than 6 cents for each $100 of assessed property value is unchanged from last year

The sole seat up for election on the district’s Board of Commissioners was uncontested. Ralph G. Tancredi Sr., an incumbent, is unchallenged for the three-year term. He received 37 votes in Saturday's polling. There were no write-in candidates.
