Wall Police Honored For Extraordinary Service

Annual MOCIB luncheon recognizes Wall Police efforts

Four officers of the Wall Township Police Department were honored last month at the Monmouth and Ocean County Intelligence Bureau awards luncheon, held at the Breakers Hotel in Spring Lake.

MOCIB is made up of detectives from the two counties and it meets monthly to exchange information and intelligence on active cases. The annual luncheon, for 2012 held on April 18, honors officers, departments and occasionally civilians who have excelled in criminal cases and police response.

Detectives Chris Scerbo and Sean O’Halloran and members of the ATF - Trenton Office, received the Walter Witt Award for outstanding accomplishment achieved as a result of a prolonged multi-agency investigation. There award covered a firearms trafficking case from Arizona to a Wall Township address in 2011. The case lasted approximately four months and resulted in federal charges for trafficking and selling about 50 firearms, mainly in the Arizona area.

Patrolman Ian Hatch was awarded the Honorable Service Award for foiling an armed robber in Hamilton Township in August. While driving home after K9 training school, Hatch saw an armed robbery in progress at an auto repair shop.  Hatch, unconcerned about his own safety, disrupted the robbery and, after a foot chase, caught and held the suspect until Hamilton Police arrived.
