Glimmer Glass Bridge Closed For Upgrades

County project on Fisk Ave. bridge expected to last two weeks

The Glimmer Glass bridge between Manasquan and Brielle will be closed for roughly two weeks, officials said.

Required safety system upgrades funded by the county shuttered the bridge along Fisk Avenue beginning Monday, according to a county release.

The county will close the roadway so the contractor, IEW Construction Group, can replace two traffic gates and one barrier gate the release says.

“Monmouth County prides itself on safety, especially with its movable bridges,” said Freeholder Deputy Director Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the county’s Department of Public Works and Engineering. “We want to keep this bridge in good working order and safe for travelers and the bridge operators.”

The bridge closure will not affect marine traffic, the release says.

“This work is being done at the end of our tourism season and before the winter weather sets in,” John W. Tobia, director of Monmouth County Public Works and Engineering, said. “This schedule provides minimal disruption to the majority of travelers.”

“This work is being performed under a larger contract that will provide safety system upgrades at each of the four movable bridges owned and operated by Monmouth County,” County Engineer Joseph M. Ettore said.
