Annual tree lighting postponed; two festivities on Friday

The downpour outside that is expected to continue through the evening has put a damper on annual tree lighting, which was scheduled for Wednesday night.

The tree lighting has been rescheduled for Friday, Dec. 9, at 6 p.m., according to Ed Grill, recreation director.

A half hour later, the is also scheduled to hold its first tree lighting at their Lakeood Road facility.

The first aid squad's ceremony, to include ambulance rides, hot chocolate and visits with Santa, is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 9 at the first aid building, 1417 Lakewood Road.

The township’s annual tree lighting will be held at the municipal center, 2700 Allaire Road, and will include a visit from Santa, caroling and refreshments. There will also be a short, holiday-themed fireworks display.

The Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore also will be collecting non-perishable food items for the Manasquan Food Pantry.
