Christie Once Celebrated When A Bridge Stayed Open—For His Graduation

Governor was pleased when a bridge opening eased traffic for his 1984 graduation from the University of Delaware.

Media outlets have dug up an old article from Gov. Chris Christie’s University of Delaware days in which he expressed gratitude over a bridge opening that would ease traffic problems during the University of Delaware’s 1984 graduation ceremonies.

Christie was was the president of the Delaware Undergraduate Student Congress at the time. Salon called the news story, produced by the Talking Points Memo website, the "most ironic student newspaper story of 2014," given that some members of the governor's staff did what they could to nearly shut down the George Washington Bridge during last year's gubernatorial election.
