The southbound ramp to the Garden State Parkway off Route 34 is expected to be closed each night until Wednesday, with other closures in the area to come, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The southbound ramp at Exit 98 is being shuttered each weeknight until Oct. 24 to accommodate ongoing construction to the Parkway’s bridges between exits 90 and 100, as part of a $174 million widening of the road in Monmouth and Ocean counties, according to a DOT release
Northeast RemsCo, the contractor performing the bridgework, will close the ramp for crane assembly and box beam installation operations, the DOT says.
Drivers traveling southbound on the Parkway and headed for southbound Route 34 will be rerouted to the Route 34 northbound ramp and directed to the Route 138 interchange, the DOT says.
During the week of Oct. 28, Route 34 will be closed for one or two weeknights in one direction at a time, according to the DOT.
The tentative plan calls for closing Route 34 southbound on Monday, Oct. 28 and Tuesday, Oct. 29 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Drivers will be directed to Route 138/I-195 eastbound to Allenwood Road to Route 34 southbound, the DOT says.
Route 34 northbound will be closed on Wednesday, Oct. 30 and Thursday, Oct. 31 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Drivers will be directed to the off-ramp for GSP/Route 138/I-195, to take the ramp for Route 138 westbound to the ramp for Route 34 northbound, the DOT says.
Access to the Garden State Parkway southbound from Route 34 southbound - at the ramp located just prior to the bridges - will be open. Interstate 195 eastbound and Route 138 westbound drivers headed for Route 34 southbound will be directed to use either Allenwood Road or W. 18th Avenue.
Construction on the bridges began in March 2013 and it is expected to be completed by the end of 2014, the DOT says.
