No Surprises In Uncontested Primary Elections

Preliminary results still coming in at 10 p.m.

With two districts yet to be counted, Wall's local primary election totals held no surprises Tuesday.

Incumbent Committeeman George K. Newberry, of M Street, and Mayor Ann Marie Conte, of Overbrook Drive, each won their party's nomination Tuesday. 

Conte received 378 votes. Newberry received 377, in preliminary tallies. There were two write-in votes, according to the Monmouth County Board of Elections.

Democrats Charles McFadden, of Terrace Place, and Thomas P. Ehrlich, of Buchannan Street, also uncontested for their party's nomination, won their races. 

McFadden had received 112 votes. Ehrlich garnered 105. There were no write-in votes.

Countywide turnout was exceedingly low, with just 3.26 percent of eligible voters casting ballots in the primary. Republicans turnout was higher -- 8.52 percent -- than Democrats, who had just a  5.29 percent showing, according to preliminary figures from the county board.
