QuickChek Hearing Scheduled Wednesday

Convenience store chain eyeing former Allenwood Road site

A proposed convenience store on the property of the former State Police barracks on Allenwood Road is scheduled for a hearing on Wednesday.

The Board of Adjustment is scheduled to hear continuing testimony on a proposal to build a 5,496-square-foot QuickChek store and 16-pump gas station at 2101 Allenwood Road, near Route 138. The store would be open 24-hours.

More than 30 residents, many of whom opposed the application, . Signs declaring opposition to the plan have since sprouted in neighbors’ yards in the area.

Company representatives met with their prospective neighbors on Sleepy Hollow Court roughly two weeks before the board meeting, and the residents were not receptive to the idea, Frank Marciano, a QuickChek real estate manager, has said.  

“I was at the (Sept. 7) meeting and the QuickChek meeting before,” Ken Clark, of Sleepy Hollow Court, has said. “Everybody was against it.”
