Sept. 11 Plaque Stolen From Town Hall

Township officials want memorial plaque returned

Township officials don’t know exactly when it happened, but they know at some point someone stole a small plaque dedicated to the Wall Township victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Deputy Mayor Jeffrey Foster said the theft was discovered last week, just ahead of Sunday’s ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of the attacks.

The metal plaque had been attached to a square block of concrete and laid at the foot of a bench between two maple trees on a hill overlooking the municipal complex.

The block of concrete is still there, as are the screws that once held the plaque in place.

“We would like to see that reappear,’’ Foster said Sunday. “No questions asked. Drop it in the library book return, anywhere. We just want it to reappear.”
