State Assemblyman Is Wall's New Municipal Attorney

There will be a new face on the dais this year as a state Assemblyman takes over for a former Monmouth County Sheriff as Wall’s Township Attorney.

Joseph Oxley, former county sheriff and future Superior Court judge, stepped down from the dais, making way for state Assemblyman Sean Kean, who was appointed by the Township Committee to serve as township attorney.

Kean’s appointment was codified by a 5-0 vote of the committee at its organization meeting Wednesday.

Kean will make $145 an hour in his new position, a draw that will be capped at $265,000 for the year, according to the appointing resolution.

That’s the same price that Oxley, who last year was nominated for a Superior Court judgeship by Gov. Christie, charged the town.

“There is no increase,’’ said Jeff Bertrand, township administrator. “Sean Kean agreed to leave the fee at the same level that Oxley’s was.’’

All members of the Township Committee welcomed Kean, but with a warning.

“We’re going to expect a lot from you,’’ Mayor Todd Luttman said.
