U.S. Attorney Issues Subpoenas To Christie Campaign, State GOP In GWB Probe

The U.S. Attorney’s Office has subpoenaed records from Gov. Chris Christie’s re-election campaign and the state Republican Committee in its probe of the George Washington bridge scandal.

Mark Sheridan -- an attorney with the firm Patton Boggs, which represents both groups – said in a statement Thursday that the firm had received the subpoenas.

"We can confirm that the Christie for Governor re-election campaign and the New Jersey Republican State Committee received subpoenas for documents from the U.S. Attorney's office in addition to the subpoena the campaign previously received from the state legislative committee," Sheridan said in a statement. "All three subpoenas focus on the closure of lanes on the George Washington Bridge. The campaign and the state party intend to cooperate with the U.S. Attorney's office and the state legislative committee and will respond to the subpoenas accordingly."

A special investigative committee of the state Assembly last week also issued 20 subpoenas – one to Christie’s re-election campaign -- in its probe of the September lane closures that gridlocked Fort Lee for nearly a week.

Christie has denied any knowledge of the closures and fired one aide – Bridget Anne Kelly, his former deputy chief of staff – who appeared to order the closures in an email to a former Port Authority executive, David Weinstein, who has since left the bi-state authority.
