Annual event is loud affair this year

Let it not be said that Wall Township does things quietly.

After a two-day delay because of Wednesday’s pouring rains, the annual tree lighting took place Friday night under clear skies.

Normally, the weather is the big story, because it’s nearly always too cold, or too rainy or too something to really enjoy it. This year was different. It was cool, slightly on the cold side, which is normal, it being December and all.

Lots of people came out, too. Probably more than 200 -- mainly consisting of small children who brought their parents, mostly because they can’t drive.

It was a loud, raucous affair, punctuated by a 15-minute fireworks display. But the girl scouts from various Wall troops sang some holiday standards. The mayor wore raindeer ears and Santa showed up, on time, in a fire truck.
