UPDATE: Second School District Budget Meeting Called For Tuesday

$68 Million School District Budget Introduced last week; special meeting to discuss Tuesday

A special meeting of the Board of Education is scheduled for Tuesday to discuss the district's $68 milllon tentative budget, officials said.

The meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Intermediate School is the second such special meeting in as many weeks. It was announced Saturday in a blog post by Superintendent Daniel Simon and, also Saturday, in a tweet on Simon's twitter page.

New budget documents also were made available over the weekend, including the district's tentative budget summary, Simon said.

The budget process presentation linked on the business office page under the heading "2013-14 Budget," however, contains the previous year's budget numbers, not the proposed budget numbers.

Also, the link to the tentative budget summary includes the district's operating budget, but excludes nearly $4 million in grants and entitlements and repayment of debt. Adding those, the total expenditure for the district is $68,655,910 for the 2013-14 school year.

The total tax levy, the tax rate and the impact on the average home assessment is still unavailable.

Previously Reported:

The Board of Education at a special meeting last week introduced a tentative $68 million 2013-14 school budget.

If left unchanged, the $68,655,910 spending plan is up $459,492 or .67 percent from last year’s $68,196,418 budget.

No other budget details -- including tax rate, tax levy or tax impact on the average home assessment -- were immediately available.

A public hearing is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. March 26 at the Intermediate School.

The special budget meeting was called for Wednesday, March 6, as the latest winter storm was approaching. The Wall Township Committee and the Board of Adjustment each were also meeting during that time.

The next regular meeting of the board is scheduled for March 19 at the Intermediate school. It is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
