First Regular Meet Of New Board of Ed

Tuesday's meeting the first ever for some members and first regular business meeting of the year

The Wall Township Board of Education is set for its first regular meeting since organizing at a brief meeting earlier this month.

The regular business meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Intermediate School. The time is 30 minutes earlier than the board normally meets. The new time will be the new normal starting time, according to Superintendent Dan Simon.

Longtime board member Eva Applegate will run Tuesday’s meeting. Applegate was chosen by the 9-member panel to become this year’s president.

Former board President John Tavis nominated Applegate for the presidency at the board’s brief organization meeting, held Jan 3. The vote to install Applegate was 8-1.

Board member Donald Herbert cast the lone vote against.

Joseph Tonzola, in his second year on the board, will continue on as the board’s vice president. Tonzola’s nomination -- made by board member Robin Cervantes -- also was unchallenged. The vote was 8-0, with Tonzola abstaining.
