Interim Schools Chief May Be Named Friday

Board of Education sets special meeting on Friday

Following a 30-minute closed session that was called around 10 p.m. Tuesday, the announced it would hold a special meeting on Friday where it could name an interim Superintendent of Schools.

The board called for the closed session following a two-hour regular meeting, saying it needed the time to discuss personnel matters. When the panel came back into open session about a half-hour later, board attorney Michael Gross told the few remaining audience members that the board decided to hold the special meeting at 4 p.m. in the library to possibly name the interim schools superintendent.

Gross said the contract for an interim schools chief had to be approved by the county Superintendent’s Office and may, or may not be, approved by the Friday meeting.

If approved, the board’s selection will be named and the contract vote on, Gross said. If not, the winning candidate may still be named, he said.

None of the board members named the panel’s choice to sit in for schools Superintendent James Habel, who is out on medical leave and not expected to return before his contract expires in June.
