Last Budget Presentation Scheduled for Election Day

District adds last of its site-specific budget presentations

The school district, experimenting with budget presentations tailored to each of its seven schools, has added a new date to its list of presentations.

The morning of the school budget vote, April 27, the Intermediate School will host the final of the series of presentations. That presentation is scheduled for 9 a.m.

The high school will host an already scheduled presentation on April 26, also at 9 a.m., according to the district’s website.

Each principal is responsible for crafting a unique budget presentation, emphasizing the 2011-12 budget’s effect on that school, Assistant Superintendent Sandra Brower has said.

"We're very excited to embrace this new idea where parents can learn about the school district budget from their school's principal,'' Brower has said. "We believe it will provide an opportunity to make a stronger connection between parents and our principals and allow them to understand how our schools are funded."

The district’s $61 million budget, supported by a proposed $56,829,239 tax levy, also comes with a separate, second question on the ballot asking voters to approve the cost to retain six custodians cut under the spending plan. ()

On a home valued at $312,700 – the township average – the 2011-12 tax bill would be $4,871.87, an increase of $156.35 over last year’s $4,715.52 bill, under the proposed spending plan.

The proposed budget would keep all current programs, drop two administrative positions and spend $1.8 million on roofing at the four elementary schools and the high school, in addition to a $200,000 gym floor replacement.
