St. Rose Grammar School To Open Thursday

Belmar parochial school sustained roof damage during storm, schedules late-week opening

St. Rose Grammar School in Belmar, closed since Hurricane Sandy, is set to re-open Thursday, officials said.

The pre-kindergarten-to-grade 8 parochial school sustained roof damage during the storm, but was spared from the intense flooding that the Catholic parish’s high school took on.

In a recorded message sent to parents Monday night, Sister Kathy Nace, principal of St. Rose High School, said the grammar school would re-open Thursday, three days later than expected.

Nace said a communication error was to blame for the delayed opening of the 6th Avenue school. She was not more specific.

The high school, located on 7th Avenue, is operating on a limited schedule to accommodate pre-planned class trips while scads of volunteers and a disaster recovery company work to clean out the building, which had up to nine feet of water in some sections following the storm.
