Top Administrator Leaving School District

A top school district administrator is leaving the district after being hired by the Cherry Hill school system earlier this week.

Marianne Gaffney, Wall Township School District's curriculum director, was confirmed by the Cherry Hill Board of Education as its newest assistant superintendent of curriculum, Cherry Hill officials confirmed Friday.

In her new position, which begins Aug. 15, Gaffney will be paid a $160,000 salary, according to Seth Klukoff, Cherry Hill Board of Education president.

The vote to confirm hiring Gaffney was on Tuesday, Klukoff said.

"It’s a wonderful opportunity for her, a loss to Wall Township,’’ said Eva Applegate, school board president.

Applegate said she could not comment further.

It was not clear Friday if Gaffney's position will be filled or if her responsibilities will be absorbed by another position or under what circumstances Gaffney was looking for a new job. Wall Township School District officials could not be reached for comment.

Gaffney was paid a $130,000 salary in 2010, according to state records.

The Cherry Hill School District -- which has more than 11,000 students in 19 schools  -- district is significantly larger than the Wall district.
