Wall Board Ed. May Choose New Member Tues. Night

Five residents want the job

The Wall Board of Education may select a new board member at its upcoming meeting Tuesday night, according to Stephanie Bilenker, the interim school district superintendent.

The board interviewed five potential candidates at its Jan. 7 reorganization meeting and will likely discuss them during the executive session of the upcoming meeting, Bilenker said in a telephone interview on Wednesday afternoon.

The executive session is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., followed by the open meeting at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at Wall High School because there is a school concert at the intermediate school, where board meetings are usually held, Bilenker said.

Following the closed session, the public session is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. and the board members may vote for a new member then, according to the superintendent.

"I'm hopeful they choose someone then," Bilenker said.

The five people who want the job are Allison Field; Carmine Venezia; Kirk Evangeliou; Kerrin McGowan and Suresh Madhaven, said Bilenker.

Initially, Raymond Bandlow had also shown interest. However, at the Jan. 7 meeting, he withdrew his name from consideration, Bilenker said.

When asked if the board and district officials have begun to conduct a search for a permanent schools superintendent, Bilenker said she believes that process will move forward after the new board member is in place.

The board also has two new members, Ralph Addonizio and Tim Farrell, who were sworn in at the reorganization meeting.

The school district is also using its website to remind parents that this Monday is an in-service day for staff members, with no classes for students.
