Wall School Board to Meet June 18

By Keith Brown and Catherine Galioto

The next meeting of the Wall Township School Board is 7:30 p.m. tonight, June 18 in the Intermediate School.
The meeting is the last of the school year, but it also falls amid controversy for the district.

The district was just yesterday rocked by an indictment against its former superintendent. Former Wall Township Schools Superintendent James F. Habel is facing a 14-count indictment in addition to all the charges in the previous indictment charging Sandra Brower, his former assisant superintendent.

In the first indictment, the pair face maximum sentences of 16 ½ years in prison, if convicted on all counts. Habel is charged with money laundering, theft by deception and mortgage fraud, among other charges. The Monmouth County Prosecutor alleges Habel misrepresented his income and primary residence on mortgage documents.

The meeting is also the last for outgoing Superintendent Daniel Simon, who has left to take a job as principal for Colts Neck High School, a position Simon said he would enjoy for its more one-on-one interaction with students. That facet is lacking in a superintendent position, Simon said last month.
