Tim Arre Races Back To A Win

Toms River man takes the checkered flag in first race since crash

Veteran Modified stock car driver Tim Arre on his first race since a major crash last month took the checkered flag in a 40-lap race Saturday during Wall Stadium’s “First Responders Night,” track officials said.

Farmingdale’s Billy Cole III jumped to the lead off the green flag, chased by Arre, of Toms River, and Roger Coss, of Lafayette. Arre took the lead at the halfway mark and kept it though the end, stadium spokesman Jeff Gravatt said.

Cole and Coss crossed the line second and third, respectively, with defending champion Chas Okerson of Freehold fourth and current point leader Anthony Sesely of Matawan in fifth place, Gravatt said.

The race capped the stadium's special night for emergency workers. First responders -- police, fire and first aid crews -- were given a pass on regular admission Saturday.

"This is just a great night for us to win," Arre said after the race. "We've had some very tough races and I am so glad to win this for (car-owner) Bob Nelson. We also want to honor all the First Responders on this very special night."

The Legend Cars also raced two 25-lap events. In the first, Mike Alcaro raced to a win over Zach Alspach, of Willingboro, Robert French, of Howell, Trevor Alspach, of Willingboro, and Kenny Van Wickle, of Manasquan, Gravatt said.

In the second, French grabbed a victory over Trevor Alspach, with Dan Roslin, Zach Alspach and Van Wickle following, Gravatt said.

Steve West, of Howell, had his second win of the year in the 25-lap Factory Stock feature race. The former Legend Cars standout was chased across the finish line by Rick Siddons, of Beachwood, Jim Downey, of Aberdeen, Whitey Miller, of Jamesburg, and Toms River's Marty Van Druten, Gravatt said.

Ron Frees of Browns Mills grabbed his second straight win on the 25-lap nightcap for the Street Stocks. Nick Shaw of Chatham, Jackson's Howie Conk, Beachwood's Bill Vanderveen and Mike Tillett of Beachwood completed the top five, Gravatt said.
