UPDATE: Wall Stadium Cancels Opening Night

Racing called because of foul weather; festivities red-flagged until next week

Racing has been canceled at Wall Stadium today because of foul weather, a track spokesman said early Saturday afternoon.

The planned Opening Day festivities for this year's racing season has been called because rain and high winds expected to hit the Shore Area today, track spokesman Jeff Gravatt said.

The 60-year-old track, thought to be shuttered for good at the end of last season, will postpone its planned festivities until next week, Gravatt said.

The stadium had planned an on-track party and myriad other events before the 6 p.m. green flag, beginning a night of racing.

"I am very disappointed," new track operator Cliff Krause said in a release. "But we just can't control the weather. I am really looking forward to racing, but we all will have to wait one more week."

The April 23 rescheduled opening will include a free for children age 12 and under Easter Egg Hunt  in the grandstands starting at 1:00 p.m, according to a release from the track.

The regular afternoon practice session will then begin at 2:30 p.m. and run until 4:00 p.m. Spectator seating will open for the first time this season at 3:00 p.m., the release says.

The On Track Party will set up after practice and run from 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. to be followed by an on track exhibition by the Garden State Quarter Midget Racing Club, the release says.

Racing action on the 1/3 mile paved oval will begin at 6:00 p.m. with qualifying events to be followed by feature race action for all five divisions, the release says.
