Decision On Wall Stadium Racing On Hold Until 1 p.m.

Wall Patch is keeping an eye on the track, but so far no final word on whether racing will take place today

UPDATE: Track officials said minutes ago that a decision on whether racing will take  place as scheduled tonight is on hold until 1 p.m.

"Right now, we're in a holding pattern,'' said Jeff  Gravatt, Wall Stadium spokesman. "It's looking like there may be a big break (in the weather), but we're waiting until about 1 o'clock.''

Forecasts don't look good, however. The National Weather Service's Mount Holly office is predicting rain and possible thunderstorms after 2 p.m.

Wall Stadium is set to begin a new race season Saturday after heavy rains forced the cancelation of last week’s planned opener, track officials said Friday.

The 60-year-old track was ready last week to host a slew of opening day activities ahead of the 6 p.m. start of racing at the Jersey Shore when heavy rains moved in, forcing a red flag.

But track officials said pre-race activities, including an on-track party and an Easter Egg hunt for children, are ready to go again on Saturday, weather permitting.

, said in a release that while he was disappointed with last week’s washout, the track and its employees will be ready to start on Saturday.

"The people on our staff have worked very hard with very short notice to get things ready. And we were ready for last Saturday, but the weather wasn't," Krause said in the release. "We are ready for the opener this Saturday and we hope that the weather cooperates."

But the weather forecast looks dicey. The National Weather Service is predicting a 60-70 percent chance of rain and possible thunderstorms through Saturday night.

“Of course right now it’s a go,’’ Jeff Gravatt, track spokesman, said Friday. “We just keep hoping for one of those nice, sunny spring days. We’re going to try to run the same program we planned last week.’’

Pits open at 11:30 a.m. for racers, with a paid testing session beginning at 12:30 p.m. Kids 12 years old and under may participate in a planned Easter Egg hunt on the grandstand concourse at 1 p.m. Grandstand seating opens at 3 p.m. with an on-track party scheduled for 4:30 p.m., Gravatt said.

Racing begins at 6 p.m. for all five divisions, he said.
