Honoring One Of The Jersey Shore's Greats

Memorial Race for John Blewett III this Saturday

Wall Stadium is scheduled to honor the memory of a longtime Jersey Shore racing legend with a race this weekend, stadium officials said.

The 76-lap “John Blewett III Memorial’’ is set to take place Saturday, memorializing a Modified racer who lost his life in Thompson, Ct., five years ago. Members of the Blewett family, incluing standout driver Jimmy Blewett who plans on driving in the race that honors his brother, plan to be in attendance, track officials said.

Wall Stadium Speedway will take time to honor the memory of one of its most successful and popular drivers as it celebrates the “John Blewett III Memorial” this Saturday evening. Spectator seating will open at 5:00 p.m. with qualifying set for 6:00 p.m. and feature race action scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Current point leader and defending champion Anthony Sesely of Matawan is expected to be in the field, as are other 2011 main event winners, including Chas Okerson of Freehold, Adam LaCicero of Lavallette, Shanon Mongeau of Farmingdale, Ken Woolley, Jr. of Howell and Freehold’s Steven Reed, speedway officials said.

Pit gates will open at 2 p.m. on Saturday; with practice starting at 3:30 p.m. Grandstands will open at 5 p.m. and the first qualifying event takes the green flag at 6:00 p.m. Main events are scheduled for 7 p.m.
