UPDATE, 5:20: The Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been canceled.
ORIGINAL: A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for Ocean County until 5:45 p.m., the National Weather Service out of Mount Holly announced.

Strong thunderstorms moved into parts of Ocean and Monmouth counties Sunday afternoon, with wind gusts up to 40 miles an hour and small hail possibilities, the National Weather Service out of Mount Holly announced on Sunday.

The storms moved into the area around 4:10 p.m., around the same time a Severe Thunderstorm Warning that had been in effect for Atlantic County was canceled.

The storms had the same characteristics as the severe storm projected for Atlantic County, including cloud to ground lightning. The storms were moving at a rate of 10 miles an hour.

Very heavy rain is expected in connection with the storms, and there is a possibility that water will pond on roads and fill poor drainage areas, according to the weather service.
