Knights' Korner

Knights' Korner is a weekly post highlighting the week in Wall High School athletics. This edition is December 1-7.

Wall Hockey: The Knights have gotten out to a blazing 4-0 start. They’ve fired in 19 goals in four games and tightened the reigns on their own net since opening night. That first game last Saturday was against Red Bank Regional, winning 5-4 after almost coughing up a 3-0 first period lead. Sophomore Jeff Morgan scored a hat trick while Senior Troy Klahre had a busy night in the crease, facing 38 shots, stopping 34. The next night they came out on top against Middletown South 5-2, Morgan having another two goals. Then in their home opener Wednesday night, Monroe didn’t belong on the same ice as Wall. Senior Tom Panico broke out with 6 goals. Yes, 6 goals. Morgan had 1 goal with 4 assists and Senior Luke Stohrer had 6 helpers. Klahre got his first shutout of his senior year, keeping out all 21 shots he saw, and getting himself his first point of the year as well, an assist to Panico. That momentum rolled into Friday night against Toms River North, beating them 4-0. Klahre is starting to hit form with successive shutouts. Coupling that with Morgan and Panico leading the way at the other end of the rink, this is a team that is capable of making a deep postseason run.

Wall Swimming: Both the boys and girls fell to division heavyweights Ocean on Tuesday in the first meet of the season. The boys were topped 110-60 while the girls lost to a similar tune, 106-65. Both sides got their first win of the season on Friday night against Point Boro, leaving them both at 1-1, chasing early division leaders Ocean.Wall Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Indoor Track and Wrestling are yet to get underway in their seasons.
