Don't fix the bail system. For once it's working in our favor (our being the rest of society thatRead More prefers criminals stay locked up). Too many criminals on the street already. Leave him in prison. He shouldn't be allowed to have bail for his terrorist acts.

What a shame....the article in one of the NY tabloids said she crossed against the light and gotRead More clipped after leaving a party at about 11:30pm to celebrate her getting a big job.

very possible... but again still sad
Tom Davis (Editor) April 15, 2014 at 11:17 am
Fred, I apologize for the mistakes in the story, and thank you for pointing those out. They wereRead More corrected, but they never should have appeared in the first place. Now we'd like the focus to be on the incident itself, and the fact that a 9-year-old was struck. I'd like the focus to be on wishes for the child to get well, and what can be done to improve the situation. Thanks.
Fred Grygiel April 15, 2014 at 12:12 pm
Appreciate your response Tom but unless the comments are really inappropriate, controlling theRead More responses according to "your" plan for how responses should be posted is a bit overreaching and would result in your preferences being the dominant theme. I do agree that the first comment should always be for the recovery of the child. Without knowing the speed of the car, whether the child wore a helmet, was the child observing all the rules of the road for bicyclists it is very difficult to recommend how to "improve the situation." One key element of the story was incorrect: 11:08 pm instead of am made for unfortunate and erroneous speculation about the quality of parental oversight of the child. Clearly proofing is an essential element of reporting. We all can improve in the future.
Fred Grygiel April 15, 2014 at 12:59 pm
I should have also noted: was the driver distracted (talking on cell phone, texting or any otherRead More distraction)?

I wonder how many who commented on this use their phone to text and/or call others while driving??Read More It's sad that folks have to talk and/or text while driving without realizing they MAY ONE DAY cause a death to someone - sorry state of affairs! When I feel the need to call/text someone while driving, I pull over... it just seems like the right thing to do!
louisemyrealtor April 17, 2014 at 06:11 pm
The one land- country road I travel on (on a daily basis) calls for 35 miles per hour speed limit.Read More As many travel this road to access the GSP and are just passing through my neighborhood they often get upset by this and 'tail gate' me.... sad! It just makes me drive slower to torment them!! We even have the cops who hide out, catching 'speeders' on this road... it still doesn't make folks slow down! Sorry state of affairs!
lisa April 13, 2014 at 06:23 pm
because this web news thing is a rag....the same crap for days at a time as headlines, three of theRead More five stories are now "trending" crap which is from all over the country..i wish they would just go back to giving us the Asbury Park Press for news and not this joke called patch
Laura April 14, 2014 at 10:11 am
Lisa, You may have noticed they laid off most of their staff. You could always go back to readingRead More the Press. No one is forcing anyone to view this site. I feel bad that the direction has changed but understand why one person cannot cover all towns. I have gone back to also checking the app.com

I am thankful the police are doing something about the ongoing issues plaguing our town. LikeRead More Maureen & Jenni said, the motels in Wall are all nasty and more times that not, house less than desirable people. If no one is going to make them responsible for keeping up their outward appearance, keeping the proper records and calling the police on the tenants when things get out of hand then of course they will turn into exactly what they are... run down nasty to look at holes in the wall that are an embarrassment to our town.
tom April 10, 2014 at 09:04 am
So, if the motels are violating the law, pull their business licenses. Just like they would do to aRead More bar that served minors. Hitting the owners with a big $$ fine, or loss of business will make them think twice about renting "hourly".
ED April 10, 2014 at 07:04 pm
The hotels and motels in Wall and a lot of the surrounding towns are sleazy no name hotels. You wantRead More to put in upper scale named hotels in the towns. Like the Marriott, Hyatt or Hilton.

Sadly, Here we go again. Woman with alleged mental health issues. (Hoarding/OCD) died in house fireRead More in Wall. Does anyone get it that our Health Dept's are ill equipped to handle mental health issues. Has anyone done an in depth report of the persons that oversee the health Dept's in Monmouth and Ocean. Under-qualified and over paid cronies of politicians that is who! (in my opinion). Does anyone realize the budgets these boards have and where the monies go. Check out the Psychiatrists, Psychologists, and LCSW's in the system. The foreign ones are making hundreds and hundreds of thousands off Americans every year. Wake up and follow the trail... Mental health is big business for the health profession.

Why are people "living" in a motel? If they are disabled or unable to work, isn't thereRead More better low income housing to offer, especially if the unit contained more than 2 people? One apparently housed a family of 4. Why aren't they in an apartment rather than primo beach real estate that few working class could afford?
Deborah Houlihan April 8, 2014 at 11:13 pm
Since the fire a few weeks ago, I have read with a heavy heart so much of what has been said here onRead More the patch about the Mariner's Cove and the people staying there. I'm not sure what the answer is to the problem of homelessness in Ocean County, but I do know that many of the people staying at the Mariner's Cove where hard working people... taxi drivers, dump truck drivers, housekeepers, blue collar workers making minimum wage and affected by the big drop in income after the storm... many also lost their rentals in Sandy. Some stayed at the hotel for around $35/night. Some did some chores in exchange for a place to stay. In the beginning, police would drop off whoever they found homeless in Point Beach, and the manager would welcome them even though they were without power and completely flooded on the first floor. At least they had a roof over their heads. Things are still being investigated, but I can tell you that what I know of the manager there is that he has a heart of gold, going out of his way frequently to help those who are in need. In a report from October of 2013, there were still 28,000 people in Ocean County displaced from their primary home due to Sandy. Some could afford to rent someplace, some are staying with family or friends, some are in hotels. It was the largest hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic Ocean and it slammed into us, breaking every record we ever had here in NJ, and especially in Ocean County. It is estimated that it will take 7 years to recover. Please people, have compassion. So many are hurting more than you can even begin to imagine. Lord, have mercy. We need Your light and love now more than ever.

@ Av. I agree that anyone with normal emotions is totally outraged by his utter callousness.Read More However; most guards are decent law abiding people who do their difficult jobs without becoming like the scum they guard; regardless of how they feel. They have my pity. Barbara; We are responsible for our evil acts. To receive redemption; this piece of utter filth would have to undergo a complete conversion of heart, & utterly detest the betrayal he committed against his helpless baby girl. We ARE offered forgiveness... But first we must admit & atone for our crimes. In his state of unrepentant arrogance he condemns himself to a much more dire fate than just life in jail. His innocent daughter will be among those who testify against him at final judgement. He brutalized & killed her without any mercy, so... Just how do you think he will be judged by the heavenly Father, whose precious gift he abused, hmmmm.
