Lee Brewer April 24, 2014 at 07:59 am Mr Kitzer - I am sure there may have been a few good peopleRead More there helping who were Atheists - but they were not en masse, not in huge numbers, not there every day. Gateway Church has had one or two volunteers in Union Beach every single day since Oct 1, 2013 Sandy aftermath. My point is - you gotta walk the talk Mr. Kitzer - not call the world that disagrees with you profane names. I did not read that you gave 10% of your annual 10% income to help the poor. Did I miss this? That is what many Christians and Jews do. Many Muslims give 20% for the poor. BTW in 2012 Azim Permij, a Muslim in India, gave 2 Billion USD cash to help their educational system. God has a way of penetrating hearts into action. So I am thankful that we are one nation, under God.

Good morning Tom Abbott and thank you for the gentle correction. If my kids should see that post IRead More will hear about it until Father's Day.

Lee Brewer: I help people because I am able to and I hope people would help me in a time of crisisRead More (in other words, pay it forward). Helping has nothing to do with my belief in God which is a personal matter. We are one nation, a nation of people who care for one another, regardless of motivation. People are summoned to help others by a number of sources: parents, their employers, their church, God, need for redemption, feeling of altruism, personal connections to the victims of misfortunes, etc. We are one nation. Period.

Please provide a specific example of teaching children that America is bad, that the USA flag isRead More offensive, that religion is a myth, that social justice is real and should be administered, white privilege and lies about our founding fathers and the birth of our country. School. Curriculum. Texts used. Specific quotes from the lesson.
factchecker April 24, 2014 at 07:06 am
WMS826: FoxNews is used to convince ignorant conservatives of just about everything in your post.Read More In reality, none of it has any merit.
factchecker April 24, 2014 at 07:14 am
America is not bad, but far from perfect. Her Founding Fathers did great things and horribleRead More things. I so love the Constitution that I believe we should honor by remembering that no one religion rules this country. I also believe in the Declaration which states that all men are created equally and deserve to live their best life here. I love the flag and all the schools I have ever worked in still recite the Pledge, even though the original Pledge did not include the words "under God" - that was added in the 1950's. Stop trying to use patriotism to hate others.
I plead the 2nd tchk tchk April 22, 2014 at 04:12 pm
Marie, why are you conditioned to think that someone that needs pay more taxes because they have aRead More larger house? Why do you think that is fair? Why do you think that if someone spends money keeping their house nice, they need to be penalized with higher taxes? Shouldn't someone should be allowed to keep their house nice? So according to you, it is fair if I buy a house and let the paint go and let the place degenerate and I can have my taxes lowered. you are brilliant.
John Santaella April 22, 2014 at 04:16 pm
I plead the 2nd tchk tchk it doesn't work that way. Ask your town assessor about that.
Marie Intili April 22, 2014 at 05:49 pm
I didnt say you have to pay more taxes if you have a bigger house! Or a nicer house...you areRead More taking my words out of context! A two family home that is zoned for two families should only have two families living in it! Not 10 families! Thats all I said...I said nothing about letting your paint go or getting penelized with a higher tax because of size.....only what its zoned for!

your kindof a mean nasty person CWK. I asked a question. you respond with some no answer bs aboutRead More federal regs under law at our HS?? yea i went there too so dont hold my stupidity against me. if you budget to pay a teacher 50 and change them to 52, you move the 2. how hard is that? do you call christie or obama to make it happen? the only time i ever heard about science rooms was when this started never before. i hear about fb and sports all the time.
Jane Richards March 16, 2014 at 12:29 am
You are right on, Dame Bridgid. The State Commisioner of Ed. Stood on the MHS stage this summer andRead More told the BOE that they need to upgrade science, math and technology. Talk about short changing the students... We do need the field upgraded but with a less elaborate field plan some funds could go to to some upgrading of the above mentioned programs.
Carol Wilkins Kirkman March 17, 2014 at 09:01 am
@ MHS Grad. mmmmmm.... I've never been accused of being "a mean nasty person" by anyoneRead More that knows me. That is a first. Maybe you should take some time away from FB and The Patch to surf the web on some interesting learning sites instead. There is a wealth of accurate interesting information out there. And to answer your question - No, I do not call or involve Chris Christie or President Obama on anything locally. That would not be appropriate.

If this is true my dog could probably be eligible if he went through the Brick school system.
Rick Ricky March 15, 2014 at 02:05 pm
Schools in general is nothing but fakes. Not even close to accurate. To many reasons to list. YouRead More have to many dishonest people involved in the outcome in changes that shouldn't be. Yes, schools play to make it look one way that is not even close to what it should be. They rig the outcome to make their school look good for certain students who they might have a connection with in some way. You can have students who rank higher in lower level classes that are not even close in comparison that has no business being 2 or 3 in a class.

Hey Joe-90% tax rate existed with a number of signifigant loopholes that resulted in a nominal taxRead More rate in the mid 40s for the highest earners...stop getting your talking points from MSNBC and think for yourself. and even if you took every dollar from the top 10% of earners in this nation, we would still have a deficit...spending is the issue, not revenue....do you get that fact or does your hatred for the wealthy cloud your ability to digest reality...
Joe R March 15, 2014 at 08:51 am
Hey SH, in the 1950s, the top marginal tax rate was 91% and the effective tax rate was about 51%Read More after the loopholes. Oh, so we don't have loopholes today??!? Ha, ha, ha. The current top marginal tax rate is 39.6% but that's before all the loopholes. The effective tax rate is even lower than 39.6%. JFK eliminated many of the loopholes and reduced the top marginal tax rate to 74%. That works for me.
SH Resident March 15, 2014 at 07:02 pm
Joe-I will agree to raise the marginal tax rate to 50%...what programs other than defense do youRead More propose to cut? Exactly none is probably your answer...cutting defense and raising taxes does not get us to a balanced budget...we need to cut spending...you socialists never seem to get that point...and moreover, how about EVERYONE has some skin in the game and has to pay some income tax.... you will never want to cut spending on social programs because then how will you bribe low information voters to win elections?

What a stupid poll. No details. There were drugs when I was there 20 years ago and they existRead More today only today its not just weed its stuff that kills you. What all do they test for? How much do the tests cost and who pays for them? What does same mean versus "tweaking?" Don't you always seek to improve? There's no secret we need it and we have a drug problem. Today's paper refers to a heroin epidemic and says the community is coming together. The two mom's pushing this can click NO all night but it doesn't change the fact of who your kids are and what we all know they are doing. Nobody respects enablers other than abusers and addicts. Which one are you?

Poor Lacey...It is their fault. They should have never hired her to begin with. They had a veryRead More capable employee of their own who could have done the job. I am sure a lot better job too. They did the wrong thing again. Hired someone based on who knew who. Hired out of a favor to Habel...Oh those darn connections ruin it again costing the tax payers unnecessary money while stuck with someone incompetence for the next few years.

Can we drop it, who cares! Let Lacey Patch discuss this. She is no longer a Wall employee. Move onRead More and report on something important.

I completely misread Jen's post. So, for the record, I stand corrected and regret doing so.Read More Sheila, unfortunately, I don't have children, and am able to freely make vacation plans. As for our education system, I'm afraid it's appalling, but I pay my tax dollars in support, none the less.

I thought this was very funny. I even played it back for friends as we danced around the room. IRead More believe it is the quirky stuff in life that makes it all worth it. Jim, Geez you are the one who can't be that ignorant yourself. You couldn't be more wrong and inRead More denial. Nothing jives with any of these tests. They compare SAT's and some schools average 1535 total and think that is good. I think that score is unacceptable. Just a little over what the state requires. The H.S. do little or just enough to get by. Just passing is good enough for them. You have schools who some considered top schools bragging how great they are getting average sat's at 1545. @Speedz..You are right on and I agree it is hard to figure out what makes sense versus real.
esther March 3, 2014 at 12:02 am
Here's what I measure when considering schools- and this applies directly to Montclair and allRead More districts- Has my child been taught to be an independent thinker, an active problem solver, willing to take on challenges, work as part of a team, and the confidence to work independently? Has my child met a teacher who has motivated him/her to be their best academic self and created a lifelong learner? That's how success is measured. Numbers/statistic can be tugged, pulled, hidden, adjusted, and manipulated. The cold hard facts that your child has the attributes previously listed above is the true measure. That's done here in Montclair and other districts in New Jersey and beyond- or at least it was true before the core curriculum standards and the broads invaded.
ED April 12, 2014 at 11:54 am
esther, You have a few things right. Numbers/Statistics can be tugged, pulled, hidden, adjusted andRead More manipulated. By Who? The same people who are running the schools and handing in these reports. Everything in NJ is corrupted.

I'm confused. What "hype" are you talking about? Is it not snowing where you are? IRead More have about 6" of hype outside my office window. There were several cars that seemed to have slid off the roads today - were they staged? Are you upset that schools are closed?
BarbaraNJ February 4, 2014 at 07:08 am
In Belmar, we went from rain to a blizzard in the blink of an eye. Couldn't believe how fast theRead More snow was falling. No knee-jerk reaction here by closing the school, it was a smart move.
Rick Ricky February 4, 2014 at 07:25 pm
@Wall Parent, I am confused too! @Motimer Snerd, What "hype" The weather was bad. ItRead More turned real quick. Not to easy getting kids to or home when you have a 3 tier bus system dropping kids off or picking them up. Kids safety should be put first. They absolutely made the right call. Everyone who complains would be the first one suing if something happened to their kid and they didn't call school off. There was 112 accidents reported in Monmouth County on Monday from 7 to 2. That is without all the school buses and parents who drive their kids to school on the road. There was only one day that I would consider a mistake. That was the first one a while back that the weather station said it was going to be similar to the one we had Sunday into Monday. If anyone is to blame is the weatherman not the superintendent of schools. Keep it up Mrs. Bilenker. You are the only one who makes sense. Something this district desperately needs. Wall is definitely going in the right direction with you on board. Going by policies and rules. Not just letting everyone do what they want or make exceptions to the rules. Make the ones who need to be accountable for their actions or else. Thank You!
