Melvin Burdge, 96, Air Force Captain, Funeral Director

Visitation and funeral service on Wednesday

Melvin S. Burdge, 96 of Manasquan passed away Sunday April 21 at Ocean Medical Center with his wife by his side. Melvin was born and raised in Freehold and had moved to Manasquan in 1949. Melvin was a licensed funeral director for 46 years working for Floyd T. Brown Funeral Home, Robert C. Neary Funeral Home and Neary-Quinn Funeral Home before his retirement in 1995. Melvin was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He served from 1941 – 1945 in the 11th Air Force in Alaska, Elmendorf Field Anchorage Alaska as adjutant of the Alaska Air Depot, and the Western Aleutian Islands. Matthew Trengrove, 23, Manasquan Lifeguard

Matthew J. Trengrove, 23 of Manasquan passed away Monday April 15 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick with his family by his side. Matthew was born in Burlington, NJ and was a lifelong resident of Manasquan. Matthew was a graduate of Manasquan High School, where he played football and lacrosse. He was attending Centenary College, Hackettstown, NJ and was a member of the Lacrosse team. Matthew had been a Manasquan Lifeguard for several years and enjoyed competing in the Lifeguard Tournaments and boogie boarding at Manasquan Beach. Matthew enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will be especially missed by his dog, Gunner. In keeping with Matthew’s loving spirit, it was his family’s decision to donate Matthew’s organs so that …

Community Mourns Brandon Holt with Candlelight Vigil [VIDEO]

Mourners walked through downtown Toms River Friday night in memory of Brandon Holt, 6, who was killed in an accidental shooting earlier this week.  Carrying white candles, community and family members walked from the Carmona-Bolen Home for Funerals to Huddy Park, where the flames then were extinguished. Police blocked Main Street to vehicle traffic as mourners walked through the downtown.  Among those present was Randel Holt, the victim's uncle, who said that the incident was an accident. He thanked the community for supporting his family. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Toms River, following visitation from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

UPDATE: Community Prepares To Eulogize 6-Year-old Gunshot Victim

Services planned for Brandon Holt of Toms River, who was fatally shot Monday by a 4-year-old

Friends, family and community leaders tried to pull together Thursday as services were arranged for the 6-year-old Toms River boy who was fatally shot by a 4-year-old neighbor. Visitation for Brandon Holt will be held Friday, April 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m., as well as Saturday, April 13 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Carmona-Bolen Home for Funerals in Toms River. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Toms River, according to Holt’s obituary. Community leaders also spoke of having a vigil on Saturday night, although such plans were not finalized as of Thursday morning. James 'Seamus' Bickel, 57

James "Seamus" Bickel, 57, of Wall died Sunday, Nov. 4 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center after losing a battle to pancreatic cancer. Bickel was raised in Linden before moving to the Jersey Shore years ago. He was a carpenter and most recently had been CEO of Inchimoor Associates. He is survived by his wife, Patrice M. Rodman of Wall; and his loving dogs, Harli, Zoe, Baby, Sweetie. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road, Freehold. Hillman Viewing, Funeral Mass Tuesday in Belmar

A viewing for Gabrielle Hillman of Belmar will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar, with a funeral mass to follow at 3 p.m. at The Church of Saint Rose, Belmar.  Hillman, 21, was found dead in her dorm room at Delaware Valley College Oct. 8. The Saint Rose High School graduate was a small animal science major who made weekly trips home to volunteer at an animal shelter in Tinton Falls. "It's sad and hard to believe. She was a young, bright girl with a long future ahead of her," said Lindsay Papa, an employee at the Associated Humane Society in Tinton Falls. Authorites have not yet released a cause of death although officials in Doylestown and Bucks County had appeared to rule out foul play or suicide.  In…

Boy Who Died In Sand Tunnel Collapse Identified, Funeral Services Held

Boy identified as Ezra Cornman, 12, of Ocean Township

Funeral services were held this morning for the 12-year-old boy who died on Wednesday after a sand tunnel he and his brother were building collapsed on him. The boy has been identified as Ezra Cornman of Ocean Township according to an obituary on the Dignity Memorial website. Funeral services were held at Bloomfield Cooper, a Jewish chapel in Ocean Township at 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning. Ezra is survived by his parents Stevie and Caroline and siblings Joey, David, Moshe, Norma, Jacob and Rachel. The official cause of death has not been released at this time, according to Long Branch Police Capt. Jason Roebuck. Roebuck said a full autopsy was not going to be performed for "religious reasons."

Andy Griffith, American Television Mainstay, Dead at 86

Actor best known for his portrayal of Sheriff Andy Taylor, died Tuesday morning

Actor Andy Griffith died on Tuesday morning in Dare County, North Carolina, reports WITN.com. Dare County Sheriff Doug Doughtie confirmed to the website that an ambulance went to the 86-year-old's home at 7 a.m. NBC News also confirms the news. Griffith was best known for his role as Sheriff Andy Taylor in “The Andy Griffith Show,” which ran from 1960 to 1968, and later known for his role as a criminal defense lawyer on "Matlock," which ran from 1986 to 1995. The actor was honored with the the TV Land Legend Award in 2004, and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by George W. Bush in 2005. He is survived by wife Cindi and his daughter Dixie. Son Andrew Jr., known as Sam, died in 1996, reports MSNBC. More on the Huffington Post.
