Police do not suspect taxi driver was under influence or speeding
A Spring Lake Heights man struck by a taxi early Sunday morning is hospitalized in critical condition, authorities said. Douglas Walter Crimi, 55, was struck 2:30 a.m. by a 2003 Chevy van registered and owned by Squan Transportation taxi company, according to Spring Lake Heights police. Crimi as of 8 p.m. Sunday was listed in critical condition in the Trauma ICU at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, police said. Accident shuts Exit 100 for about an hour

Dump truck overturns; car strikes a pole minutes later
Two accidents that happened within minutes of each other caused trouble in the north end of town early afternoon Friday. Around 12:20 p.m., a dump truck, traveling east on Atlantic Avenue near West 18th Avenue, swerved to avoid a school bus that had turned into the road. The dump truck overturned, striking a utility pole, Sgt. Pete Lokerson said. No students were aboard the school bus and no injuries were reported from the accident, Lokerson said. Atlantic Avenue between Hospital Road and Lakewood-Farmingdale Road in Howell will remain closed for several hours while Jersey Central Power & Light and Verizon crews work to repair the pole, Lokerson said. South Wall Fire Department and Wall Township EMS also responded to the scene, along with …

Ramshorn Drive and Atlantic Avenue on county's list of to-dos
On a Tuesday morning rush hour, cars cue up six, sometimes seven deep where Ramshorn Drive meets Atlantic Avenue. Drivers inch forward into the intersection, past the stop sign, and crane their necks around the Clayton Building, a 19th century structure that’s uncomfortably close to the road. There, they wait. Clearing Ramshorn Drive, a township road, is slow going, as vehicles careen unimpeded on the county-owned Atlantic Avenue and through the oddly shaped intersection. The crossing has been the site of two recent serious collisions – both happening within days of each other – and is on the county’s radar. By next year, there will be a full traffic signal, county officials said, slowing traffic on Atlantic Avenue and clearing Ramshorn …

Linda Pal you need to get your facts straight, I am part of the Taxi community locally & the company involved in the bicyclist crash last month was indeed a differant company. You also made a big assumption that either accident was indeed the driver's fault. Driving around at night in the shore area is not an easy task, I have many times barely missed hitting a Bicyclist, Skateboarder, or …   more ›
