Athletic Director Tim Pernetti has confirmed that Rutgers basketball coach Mike Rice has lost his job.
After less than a day of deflecting a storm of bad press surrounding head basketball coach Mike Rice's coaching methods, Rutgers Athletic Director Tim Pernetti has confirmed that Rice has been fired. Rutgers Athletics said Rice's termination was based on the recent "issues" as well as "a review of previously discovered issues." “I am responsible for the decision to attempt a rehabilitation of Coach Rice,” Pernetti said, in a prepared statement. “Dismissal and corrective action were debated in December and I thought it was in the best interest of everyone to rehabilitate, but I was wrong. Mabrey scores 35 in Beach win
Marina Mabrey scored 35 points as Point Pleasant Beach beat St. Rose 69-68 in a game that came down to the final second. Mabrey's teammate, Katelynn Flaherty scored 21 on Thursday night. St. Rose led through much of the first half on the strength of their 3-point shooting but PPB rallied to take a 35-33 lead at the break. Cindy Napolitano of St. Rose hit on six 3-point shots to score 18 points. Teammate Sarah Kurtz scored 19.

First 100 students through the door at Tuesday's game get a free t-shirt
The Wall High School basketball home opener is set for Tuesday night at the high school gym and the basketball club is making a special offer to the first students to show up and support the home team. The 2012 Crimson Knights will square off against Freehold Borough, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the high school, 1630 18th Ave. The first 100 students to the game will receive a free "Crimson Crazies" t-shirt, provided by the Wall Basketball Club, accroding to coach Michael Puorro.
