State DOT making bridge repairs that may affect portions of the path
Bridge work at the Route 35 and 34 bridges that intersect with the town's popular bicycle path may limit access to path users, according to a notice on the town's website. The state Department of Transportation repairs began last week and will continue through Sept. 21, the site says, causing interruptions in the use of the path. The deadline has been extended from the original date of Sept. 7.

Township Committee adopts bond ordinance to cover their share of the cost
Bigger price tag or no, the Wall Township bike path is heading for an extension. The Township Committee on Wednesday unanimously approved an additional $48,000 to its portion of the price tag to extend the bike path – which runs from Manasquan to Allaire State Park – nearly another mile The vote was 4-0 in favor of a bond ordinance appropriating $213,000 in bonds to pay for its portion of extending the township’s popular bicycle path. Committeeman Clinton Hoffman was absent. The bond ordinance represents about $48,000 more than the township had counted on. Wall had received about $500,000 in state and county grants to extend the path down Hospital Road toward its ultimate goal of extending it all the way to the Howell boundary, where that …

Township to apply for county grant to extend bike path once again
The township will seek another county grant to extend the popular bicycle path that has run into a funding snag this year. Kate Khori, assistant business administrator, is in the initial stages of applying for the annual Monmouth County Open Space and Recreation Grant – the same grant awarded to the township last year for an extension of the bike path. Khori was given the go-ahead to apply for the $250,000 matching grant for use to extend the bike path by the Township Committee at its May 23 meeting. The town had received about $500,000 in state and county grants to extend the path down Hospital Road toward its ultimate goal of extending it all the way to the Howell boundary, where that town plans to extend it to the Manasquan Reservoir, …

Township Committee agrees in principle that plans are a worthy expense
The Township Committee on Wednesday tentatively agreed to put up the remainig money to extend its popular Edgar Felix Bike Path. The town had received about $500,000 in state and county grants to extend the path down Hospital Road toward its ultimate goal of extending it all the way to the Howell boundary, where that town plans to extend it to the Manasqan Reservoir, Township Administrator Joe Verruni said. But there is about a $48,000 shortfall in the money collected to cover the cost of lengthening the 7.2-mile path, which currently begins in Manasquan and runs to Allaire State Park. Verruni had previously said the shortfall was $36,000. He corrected himself on Wednesday, saying he miscalculated. The proposed extension is about 8/10 of a…

County Open Space award program announced Friday
The Township is one large step closer toward extending its popular bicycle path after the winners of latest round of competitive Open Space Grants were anounced Friday. Wall was one of 13 municipalities awarded a portion of the $2.6 million Monmouth County Open Space Trust Fund grants, announced by the Monmouth County Freeholders on Friday. Township officials had put together a pitch to receive enough money to extend the Edgar Felix Bike Path, which runs from Manasquan to Allaire State Park. Kate Khori, assistant township administrator, has said the town put together an application for $180,000 – enough to match a grant previously awarded to the town by the state Department of Transportation. Together, the two grants would have paid for …

Town reaches compromise in lawsuit with asphalt company
The Township Committee at its Wednesday meeting passed a resolution that settled a lawsuit with an asphalt company over repairs to the town’s bike path. In a compromise reached between the township and Earle Asphalt Company and the CMX engineering firm, the Lexington Insurance Company — the engineer’s insurer — will pay the township $2,000, settling a four-year dispute over improvements to the township’s bike path. The settlement is a compromise between the parties involved and does not claim any wrongdoing by any party, the resolution says. Lexington must pay the township within 90 days, the resolution says. There was a problem with the bike path in 2007 when it was being built. Earle, who won the contract to pour the asphalt, requested …

Township Committee to vote on $10,000 resolution to pay for repairs
The Township Committee is ready to settle a lawsuit with an asphalt company over repairs to the town's bike path. A resolution paying Earle Asphalt Company, located on Route 34, for repairs it made in 2007 to the town's roughly 7-mile bike path is being prepared and is scheduled for the committee's next meeting, according to Township Administrator Joe Verruni. There was a problem with the bike path in 2007 when it was being built. Earle, who won the contract to pour the asphalt, requested to use a substitute material over wetlands near Baileys Corner Road, Verruni said. The request was granted by CMX, formerly Schoor DePalma, which was the engineering firm at the time, Verruni said. The substitute material failed, Verruni said, "for …
