Cleanup of pond area to be held Saturday; volunteers needed
The Wall Township Environmental Advisory Committee is looking for volunteers – both residents and students - for a cleanup of Wreck Pond. The clean up of the Route 71 area is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Saturday. The rain date is Sunday. Volunteers are asked to bring gardening gloves but the committee will loan gloves if necessary. No sign up is required. Volunteers will meet at the parking lot on Route 71 in Spring Lake Heights -- just south of the Sea Girt boundary. For more information, call: (732) 938-3550.

If you think there was a lot of brush left over after Hurricane Sandy, you’re right. About 14,000 tons of it, officials said. That’s 14 times the amount left from Hurricane Irene, the last big storm that in 2011 blew through the Shore Area and toppled trees and downed power lines in town, Township Administrator Jeffry Bertrand said. The mountain of brush left after Sandy and the nor'easter that followed it amounts to the most ever recorded, Bertrand said.
