State Buyback Nets Over 1,500 Guns in Monmouth

Twelve sawed-off shotguns and an AK-47 were among the illegal guns collected last weekend.

More than 1,500 weapons, including 45 illegal guns, an AK-47 and 15 other assault rifles, were netted by the state-run gun buyback program held in two Monmouth County locations last weekend, officials said. A total of 1,581 guns were collected in Asbury Park and Keansburg on March 8 and 9. This was the fourth buyback program in the county, supervised by the State Attorney General's Office. The state has now collected 7,092 firearms from state-run buyback programs, according to Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa. The buybacks are funded by money forefitted in criminal busts. In Monmouth County, law enforcement officers paid an average of $132 per gun, for a maximum of three guns per person. The county program cost $209,175 last weekend, …

REMINDER: Gun Buyback In Monmouth Friday, Saturday

State-run buyback program happening in Asbury Park and Keansburg

A state-run gun buyback program, the fourth in a series, is scheduled for Friday and Saturday in two Monmouth County locations. The program, which will pay up to $250 for each weapon, is being held by the state Attorney General's office in conjunction with the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the Asbury Park Police Department, the Keansburg Police Department, the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, and local faith-based community organizations. Monmouth County residents can bring their unloaded guns on Friday to the Shiloh Community Fellowship Ministry in Asbury Park -- 142 Dewitt Ave. -- and at a public building on Carr Avenue -- 179 Carr Ave. -- near the Saint Ann Catholic Church in Keansburg, according to a release from the Attorney …

AMEN... and who's to say or what guarantee is to be made that the money recieved won't be used to purchase "new" guns???? instead of a buy back it becomes a gun exchange at gov. expense! and OBTW where is all the money coming from for the buy-back????   more ›

State Attorney General says up to $250 paid for guns turned in on March 8, 9

In attempt to get illegal guns off the streets and cut into gun violence, the Attorney General’s Office is staging a state-sponsored gun buyback to be held in Monmouth County early next month, officials said Thursday.  State Attorney General Jeffrey S. Chiesa was in Asbury Park Thursday to announce the March 8 and 9 program would be held in conjunction with the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the Asbury Park Police Department, the Keansburg Police Department, the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, and local faith-based community organizations. Congratulations for giving criminals an incentive to steal more weapons for pocket money. Will law abiding citizens with legal permits get their stolen weapons back from the police after this buy back? If not; they are acting as accomplices to that theft, by not returning the stolen item to the rightful owner. After all; if it was a car it would be returned.   more ›
