Eatontown Man Bolts After 4-car Route 33 Crash

Laundry list of charges for man who fled scene, attempted to carjack two to escape

Following a crash that closed part of Route 33 for more than an hour Tuesday Howell Police jailed an Eatontown man on a littany of charges including attempted carjacking. Freedom Young, 25, was charged with two counts of attempted carjacking, aggravated assault with a motor vehicle while driving under the influence and operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license and causing injury followoing a Rotue 33 crash. Young also was charged with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, failure to maintain a lane, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident with injuries and failure to report an accident.  He was taken to the Monmouth County jail, Freehold Township, in lieu of $308,500 bail, Howell …

Guadagno to Address Howell Chamber Wednesday

Lt. Governor to be special guest speaker

The Howell Chamber of Commerce will hold its general membership and business development meeting on Wednesday morning with Lt. Governor and Monmouth County native Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno scheduled as the guest speaker. According to the Champer's website Guadagno is expected to "discuss the ongoing efforts to improve the NJ business climate. Since taking the position in Trenton Guadagno has stayed active in her home county and in the Howell area. She has appeared at local businesses and also helped residents affected by Hurricane Irene.  Wednesday's meeting will be held at Lomurro, Davison, Eastman & Munoz located at 100 Willobrook Road, Suite 100. State agencies, legislators, local officials attend special hearing in Wall

Municipalities throughout the region are looking for answers about how to deal with the lasting impact of superstorm Sandy. State Sen. Robert Singer and Assemblyman Sean Kean (both R-30) provided an opportunity Thursday night for residents to hear directly from relevant agencies at a special hearing attended by local officials at the Wall Municipal Complex. Howell Employees Allege Sexual Harassment At Work

Three claim pattern of "mentally abusive, sexually abusive, sexually harassing and offensive behavior" against court administrator

Three Howell Township employees have filed a lawsuit in Monmouth County Superior Court claiming discrimination and a hostile work environment against the township, the township municipal court, Court Administrator Dominick Pondaco and others.  The three women, Angela Martino, Donna Ennas and Donna Belton, had all worked in the municipal court office prior to the lawsuit being filed and have since transferred to other departments in the township. No specific amount of money is named in the complaint but the employees' attorney, Rosemarie Arnold, said they are seeking monetary damages for their emotional distress and other medical issues. Singer Calls Trip to Israel a Success

Went with Gov. Christie as part of official delegation

April looks to be a very busy month for State Sen. Robert Singer. Not only does he plan to end the month by moving into a new district office on the border of Lakewood and Howell, he started it as a member of the Jersey to Jerusalem Delegation with Gov. Chris Christie to Israel.  Singer said that while he has been to Israel several times, the recent trip was his first in an official capacity. "He had asked me to go knowing I'd been to Israel six or seven times before," he said. In the past the longtime senator said he has worked with Middle East country on topics like biotechnology and higher education, two of the focus areas of Christie's trip.  While Israel and New Jersey are geographically separate, Singer said economically they are …

Hurricane Irene Slams the Shore; 49,000 Without Power

Downed branches, trees; power lost across the region

The onslaught of Hurricane Irene has begun across the Jersey Shore. A days worth of intermittent rain erupted into massive ocean swells, torrential showers and heavy sustained and gusting winds by Saturday evening and, forecasters say, the worst is still to come. By 2:30 a.m., widespread power outages were being reported up and down the coast. According to Jersey Central Power & Light, major outages were reported in Monmouth County with more than 49,000 customers reporting a loss of electricity. In Wall, Jersey Central Power & Light reports that about 2,800 people are without power, according to its outage map. Howell appears to be among the hardest hit, with more than 5,800 in the dark.
